MT All Out Brawl
The #1 rule of the Magic Tavern is “no fighting.” But sometimes drinks get spilled, voices get raised, and arguments get heated. And when that happens the patrons of the tavern explode into an All Out Brawl. Insults fly as fast as fists, as players duck and weave and try not to get knocked out. When it’s all said and done only one victor is left standing, standing atop the pile of KO’d combatants around them. Pretty dramatic stuff for a card game.
#Players: 2-12, best for 5-10.
Need: standard 52 card deck. 2 lives per player.
Duration: quick Difficulty: easy
Family: Knock Out Whist
Type: shedding???

Setup: The host deals first. Deal each player an even number of cards, but no more than 8. Put the remaining cards face down in a pile and turn the top card face up. That card is trump for the first round.
Objective: Win at least one trick each hand to stave off elimination. Win the most tricks to gain the deal. Be the last one standing to win the game.
Card Ranks: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. For purposes of breaking ties, suits are ranked from highest to lowest Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades. Otherwise the highest suit in any hand is the highest trump card, and if there isn’t one, the highest card of the suit that was lead.
Play occurs in a series of rounds until only one player has a life token left. Each round is played in a series of hands. Players try to avoid being “knocked out” of the fight by winning at least one trick in each hand.
To begin a hand, the player to the left of the dealer plays one card face up to the middle of the table. Going clockwise, the other players in turn must play a card of the same suit if they have one. If they don’t have one they may play any card.
The player who plays the highest card takes the trick and sets it aside. They then lead with any card in their hand. Play continues in this way until players are out of cards. This ends the hand.
Any player that didn’t win a trick in that hand is eliminated from the round. They pay 1 life and are considered dazed, stunned, or otherwise incapacitated. If they cannot pay a life they are out of the game.
The player that wins the most tricks becomes the dealer in the next round. If there is a tie, the players that tied draw a random card from the deck. The player that draws the highest card is the winner.
On the second round, only 7 cards are dealt. On the third round 6, on the fourth 5, and so on. The dealer calls trump after they look at their hand, saying the name of the trump suit for all to hear.
Eventually there will be only one player standing. That player is the winner of the round and starts deal in the next round. The last player with life tokens is the winner.
Short Game: players start with 1 life token.
Long Game: players start with 4 life tokens.
Elimination: players start with no life tokens.
